PHILOSOPHY ON TECHNOLOGY

Learning to use technology responsibly is an important part of honoring the Lord with our resources. Understanding technology is important to living well in our culture as well. One of the factors of making technology beneficial, however, is knowing the Truth enough to be able to interpret and properly assess what we read online. This requires a foundational knowledge of the Truth. One of the goals at SCS is to teach Truth (whether through Bible class, christian curriculum, or our daily conversation) so that we may become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Chris and to not be shaken by the cunning and crafty teaching in the world (Eph. 4:13-14). 2 Timothy 3:16–17 states, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

We hope that while students are at school, especially in the younger, foundational years, they are able to learn solid Scriptural Truths that will help them to determine whether the information they are reading is accurate. As they grow, they will be introduced to more research opportunities and interactions with information online. Our 8th graders are taught typing skills, as well as computer applications. These classes will teach them computer skills necessary for high school, college, and career.

While things like social media safety are discussed, we believe it is the responsibility of the parent to determine what is best for your child at home. Each child has different needs and they cannot all be properly supervised or taught in a large group setting like school.

With all of this in mind, as well as the proven ability to focus more without your phone, we have made the decision to completely restrict the use of cell phones for students. If a middle or high school student needs to have a phone on campus for after school activities, they may leave it in the front office to be picked up as they leave. Any other communication needs may be taken care of through the office.
